Ron Boschma

Ron Boschma is Full Professor in Regional Economics at the Faculty of Geosciences, University of Utrecht. He is also Full Professor in Innovation Studies at the Centre for Innovation, Research and Competence in the Learning Economy (CIRCLE) at Lund University.

Boschma has widely published in international journals on Evolutionary Economic Geography, the location of industries, geography of innovation, geography of knowledge networks, agglomeration externalities and regional growth, regional diversification, and smart specialization policy.

Boschma received a Honorary Doctorate in Natural Sciences from Marburg University in Germany in 2013. Boschma was ranked by Thomson Reuters among the top 1% of cited researchers worldwide in 2014. Boschma held Guest Professorships at Toulouse University, Cagliari University and University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis.

Boschma is member of the Research, Innovation and Science Experts (RISE) High-Level Advisory Body to European Commissioner Carlos Moedas.

Boschma is Editor of Cambridge Journal of Region, Economy and Society, and Associate Editor of Industrial and Corporate Change, Papers in Regional Science and Regional Studies, and he is member of Editorial Review Board of Journal of International Business Studies.

Boschma received a PhD degree in Economics at the Tinbergen Institute, Faculty of Economics and Econometrics, Erasmus University Rotterdam in 1994. He received a Master Degree Social Geography at the Faculty of Economics, University of Amsterdam, 1988. He worked previously for Bologna University (1995-1996) and Twente University (1996-1999).
