James Wilson is a Senior Researcher at Orkestra-Basque Institute of Competitiveness and lecturer at the Deusto Business School, where he is head of the Master's in Innovation and Competitiveness. His main areas of research are the analysis of regional competitiveness, socio-economic development processes, and public policies. James's work focuses especially on issues related to territorial strategy-making, governance, clusters, innovation and cluster policy, policy evaluation, and the role that universities play in society. He has published more than 50 papers related to these issues in peer-reviewed journals and academic books, and has edited several books, most recently Strategies for Shaping Territorial Competitiveness (Routledge, 2015). James has played a leading role in several European research projects, particularly in the fields of clusters and smart specialization strategies, and has been invited as an expert speaker/advisor by the European Commission and Inter-American Development Bank, among others. He regularly speaks at academic and policy-focused conferences and contributes to media debates.
