Professor Jack G.A.J. van der Vorst (1970) is General Director of the Social Sciences Group of Wageningen UR, comprising the Department of Social Sciences of Wageningen University (21 Chair Groups), LEI Wageningen UR and CDI Wageningen UR.
From 2005 to 2015 he was Full Professor of Logistics and Operations Research, Chair of the Operations Research and Logistics Group, and Head of the section Management Decision Support at the Social Sciences Department of Wageningen University.
Jack obtained his MSc degree “Agricultural Systems Science - specialisation Logistics” with honour in 1994 and his PhD degree in 2000 with a thesis entitled “Effective Food Supply Chains; generating, modelling and evaluating supply chain scenarios”, both at Wageningen University. He is a fellow of the WASS Graduate School. His research focuses on the development of innovative logistics concepts in AgriFood Supply Chain Networks and Decision Support Models and Tools, with emphasis on the themes Quality Controlled Logistics and Sustainable Logistics.
From 2001-2005 Jack was also active as a senior management consultant for food industries and agribusiness at the consultancy firm Rijnconsult in the Netherlands, working a.o. on performance management, traceability and supply chain logistics. He lectured in multiple MSc and MBA programs and was program director of the Executive Mastercourse Hortibusiness. Furthermore, he (co)authored many articles in peer reviewed journals and is reviewer for many academic journals.
Jack acquired many industrial and scientific research grants and has been coordinator and/or work package leader of several EU projects and multiple national co-innovation projects. He is member of the Supervisory Board of Florensis and member of several International Advisory Boards.
