Cleantech Tour

Uniting different sectors

Cleantech Region is exploiting techniques that contribute to a sustainable world and cleaner environment by the reuse of raw materials, energy savings and the improvement of operational performance. It is not a sector in itself, but relevant for all fields and sectors, think of energy, transport, new materials, manufacturing industry and agriculture. This is one of the main cluster challenges. Cleantech Region connects and builds upon existing strengths; this has resulted in now 70 companies committed to the cluster and a strong link with educational institutes involved in cleantech and the circular economy.

Since October 2016 the CIRCLES program has started in The Netherlands, first of all in the eastern part of the Netherlands, with the Cleantech Regio as one of the founding partners. This program is a fysical and digital platform for all kinds of organisations who wants to work on a transformation to the circular economy. Especially different types of support are given to entrepreneurs, teachers, students and public officers.

During the tour you will be informed about how to start a transition towards circular business model, based on three dimensions: 1) vision and strategy (and show it with a recent case on reshoring of aluminium), 2) feel the customer experience (company tour), and 3) change of business model.

Christian Lorist (Cleantech Region) will guide you along several locations and provide room for speakers from diverse backgrounds, each fulfilling a different role in the cluster.

  • The tour starts with an introduction by Jan Jonker, your host for the morning program. After this he will introduceHarry Webers on the development of CIRCLES, the Dutch circular economy program by Harry Webers, chairman of kiEMT and one of the founders of CIRCLES. Niels Faber, researcher at Radboud University Nijmegen and lecturer at Hanzehogeschool Groningen, will give a unique view of the results of the first regional survey about New business models for the circular economy. He will explain how SMEs in the east of the Netherlands are working on the transformation to a circular economy. Then the hosting location, represented by Harry Gruben, COO of Royal Auping, will inspire with his vision on how to implement a new business model into a 'traditional' industrial company that is Royal Auping, which offers sleeping comfort in a cradle-2-cradle way.
  • After the morning program we will visit Kleefse Waard industrial park, an internationally renowned hotspot for cleantech business. Here we start with a lunch and an introduction on the cleantech theme. There is a specially arranged meet-up of different international cleantech clusters. Here we want to create a foundation for international collaboration by sharing cleantech opportunities, challenges and projects. Moreover, there is room for a discussion about the issues our clusters are facing in facilitating clean technology, cluster development and involvement of SMEs.
